Anageni efluvijum

Anagen Effluvium

Anagen effluvium is a form of generalized hair loss during the growth phase, causing massive and rapid hair shedding within a short time (1 to 4 weeks).

Hair loss can reach up to 80% of the total hair and affects nearly all follicles in the anagen phase.

Hair stops growing due to the inhibition of cell division in the follicles.

There are several causes of effluvium and hair thinning, and its severity depends on the underlying pathology. Causes include: genetic disorders and hormonal changes e.g. hypothyroidism, endocrine disorders, infectious diseases, chemotherapy, certain medications with adverse effects on hair, diets lacking essential nutrients e.g. copper, iron, essential fatty acids, vitamin C, exposure to X-rays and/or gamma radiation, toxins such as chromium, boron, or arsenic.

Anagen effluvium is reversible, and individuals affected by it typically recover over 90% of their hair within months after the cause is removed.
